Burger King

It is probably a sign of my terrible dietary habits, but I am rather happy about this: Burger King to Expand in Egypt.

They make tasty burgers. Not Ne'maa in Agouza greasy egg-and-cheese burger tasty, but still tasty.

Excuse my ignorance, but where in Agouza is this Ne'maa?

It's at a corner on the Corniche, about three blocks down from the British Council. A favorite of cab drivers and late night revelers.

The article suggests they're not going to cater to the hoi polloi, with just one outlet in Cairo and the others in Sharm. I guess they'll go for Maadi, so the kids at the Americanized schools can hang at Burger King after their yellow school buses drop them home, and complete the illusion of growing up in Jersey.

Issandr, I think it's high time you put your years of experience living in Cairo, and the (presumably) wide readership of your blog to good use.

What are the best places in Cairo for various types of food? You can solicit responses from readers/friends and then post the results. I'd be dying to know people's favorite burger/sushi/egyptian/etc. restaurants in Cairo.

Rashad, that's not a bad idea. When I have a little more time...

Two states with McDonalds in them have never gone to war. I wonder whether the same is tru of Burger King.

If so, Damascus is waiting for its first BK. Eagerly.

That brings up a very funny image of rogue nations and axis of evil members desperately pleading with McDonald's international to open restaurants in their country for their protection. Didn't help the Serbs, though.

If I was to guess where they would open it, I would expect Mohandiseen on Gameat al-Duwal Arabiya, or at the other major fast food hub, Abbas al-Akkad street in Nasr City.

Horrible places.
