The Qadhafi social network

This is a first attempt at mapping the social and power networks around Muammar al-Qadhafi using existing reporting, Wikileaks cables from Tripoli, and a few academic sources. Any complementary information and corrections are appreciated. Please do not use this for any commercial or reporting purposes without contacting me first.

Large PDF version for download here.

UPDATE: Your feedback on this is invaluable. There are some errors in the chart above, and thanks to those who wrote in to point them out. This will be an update to the chart by Sunday, leaving time for more info to get in. For those who asked, the software I use for this is MindNode Pro, which is very simple to use. For more complicated projects I use OmniGraffle.

lots of incorrect photos attributed to figures .... the photo of Mohammed Gaddafi is not him, and the same with Dorda and Abubaker Yunis.

Why is it that you have the Warfallah as having remained loyal? What about the statement by the Warfallah Tribal Elders a little under two weeks ago that the confederation was done with Gadhafi?

Great work, much appreciated. Some points you might want to add/fix:

- Jalloud was purged in the 90s & replaced by Abdullah el-Senoussi. I'm not sure he plays a role anymore.
- Khweildi el-Homeidi, not Hweildi...
- Warfalla, as per above.
- I think Ahmed Gaddaf el-Dam's defection is pretty much certain. Wouldn't the regime have paraded him on state tv to prove his loyalty, if he was still on their side? Could be added to his brief: he was among those responsible for Eastern Libya (and lost it, possibly a reason he defected...) and for relations with Egypt (where he apparently is now). He also looks a little like Bernard Henri-Lévy.
- But the real game-changer: Nurse Galyna has defected!

We do not have to be a Libyan national to understand that political fault and personality mistakes of Colonel Muammar al-Qadhafi damaged his image inside his own people and it is inexcusable to have sent to fire anti-tank rocket launchers RPG-7 Russian against crowds of unarmed civilians who were complaining against him at the principles of demonstrations in the streets.
A solution of the Arab League to prevent foreign invasion of rich avid of libyan oil should provide output power of Gaddafi and those responsible for crimes against unarmed civilians, the creation of a new government, the appointment of new commanders and judge in Libya, not abroad, goingo to court the use of excessive force against unarmed civilians and unjustified political repression. The Arab League must guarantee two things at the Muammar al-Qadhafi team work: or the exile to an Arab country or be in judged in a court by a new government in Libya so that even a no-fly zone can not be used as excuse to the intervention of U.S. and NATO in the internal affairs of the Libyan people that must to be solved by its own nationals. The Arab League has the responsibility to prevent foreign intervention in Libya of West much more relevant than this "old fashion" figure without political credit which is now a shadow as the leader he was.
An intervention of U.S. and NATO within Libya tarnish the political image of the United States and Europe to the Arab peoples and Arab Muslims far more than the invasion to Irak.
. We need to prevent foreign intervention in the Libyans affairs because this policy would affect the credibility of both the Arab League and UN creating even more instability and extremism in the area and outside the area ..Gualterio Nunez Estrada, cuban writer, former critic of movies(ICAIC-MES, Cuba) and radio and TV ICRT writer, former staff writer and journalist of "Radio Rebelde", Havana, Cuba,ICRT, former professional scientific tematic writer, Universidad de Oriente, Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, former protocol member to Non-Aligned Movement Summit Sixth Conference - Havana, September 3-9, 1979, Parque "Abel Santamaria", Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. actually living in Sarasota, Florida,United States 34232.
