Podcast #17: Doom and Gloom
Ashraf, Ursula and I talk about the Arab League's surprisingly tough line on Syria — what what regional games may lie behind it — and then despair about how badly prepared Egypt's elections are, looking at all the things that might go wrong. And we remind you to send in your questions and suggestions at podcast [AT] arabist.net, and donate or advertise to keep this site and the podcast going!

This push to topple the Syrian government is in line with the Arab Gulf state opposition to Iran. Removing Syria as an ally to Iran will greatly reduce Iran's influence in the Levant.
Don't drink the "Arab Revolution" Cool Aid. The narrative in the Western media concerning the "Arab Revolution" is generally bunk. Most (if not all) of these "revolutions" will go wrong. The Egyptian revolution is a good example. The way Egypt is going now, it looks like the military will basically remain in power.
Egypt is really sweating it these days, totally unsure of the upcoming elections. Unsure from the streets to the electoral commission. Sure? Unsure? Someone needs some powerful all-day protection. Something that goes on clear with no graft. Try Sure deodorant and vote with confidence.
