Hamas optimism vs. Fatah despair

Hamas optimism vs. Fatah despair: the CSM's Dan Murphy has a nice story on the difference in mood between Gaza and the West Bank.

i think mr murphy gets it wrong. it is clear that the reporting on his story is old. to say that hamas rank and file are happy about winning in gaza and fatah is not happy about losing is sort of like... duh! but to call the mood in gaza upbeat is absurd.

Fatah is clearly not in good shape, but neither is hamas. it's not just fatah that's disintegrating, it's the palestinian polity. hamas has assumed control of a broken territory and things are not going to get better for the green team in Gaza or elsewhere.

and hamas isn't figuring out a "better way" to collect garbage. they are figuring out any way to collect it. trash collectors are all on strike and the garbage is piling up.

i'm not a fatah man. i'm really not. but the halcyon honeymoon period that followed Hamas' takeover and all the glowing press about security and law and order... it's just not going to stand the test of time and i suspect Mr Murphy's article will, in hindsight, stand out as one of the last glowing peices on Hamas post takeover... it's downhill from here. mark my words.
