Some Dissenting Voices in Arab Blogosphere - The Lede Blog - NYTimes.com
- Mr. Hamalawy posted a stream of lacerating, often obscene commentary about Mr. Obama’s speech on his Twitter feed in real time, calling the speech “patronizing” and “cheesy” and saying it “could have been delivered by Bush or Clinton.”
What the NY times calls dissenting Arab voices IS the main stream opinion and rightly so. The Arab “street” as so many westerners condescendingly refer to Arab PUBLIC opinion as, is neither naive nor gullible.
Obama’s speech was utter drivel; more of the same selective truths, half truths, condescension and outright hypocrisy and propaganda. I commend professor As’ad Abu Khalil’s response article for its intellectual honesty, rigor and scholarly uncompromising tone and bravery. It’s unfortunate his voice and analysis are not aired more frequently in this country- it speaks to the increasing intellectual cowardice and moral bankruptcy of this country.
Despite what previous comments imply, Abu Khalil is neither an ideological extremist nor is he selective in his analysis. They seem to have either entirely missed his message or simply did not bother to read his refreshingly honest and unfiltered articles. I urge people in the US with a modicum of an open mind to read his blog response and THEN deliberate on where the truth lies.
As the old adage goes- the difference between the politician and the thief is that when the thief lies, he remembers where he’s hidden the truth. How unfortunate that Obama has turned out to be such a tired old consummate politician.
Signed- A not so gullible angry Arab

The Leftist Egyptian blogger, Hossam el-Hamalawy, provides the antidote to the reaction in the hall.
He writes:"It's some of the biggest pile of horseshit I've had to listen to in years.. and I still don't understand what's "historica"l about it?!!"
