Egyptian workers' saga in Jordan

(Via SM)

I found this touching story, written by a Jordanian blogger, on the horrible work conditions of Egyptian migrant laborers in Amman.

Egyptian Workers in Jordan: A True Story

To be frank, I was not surprised at all when I read this. It's no secret how Egyptian (especially the unskilled) workers are treated in the Arab World, and in Egypt itself! When I read the Jordanian blogger's posting, I told myself this could happen in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, or in Cairo itself, Tenth of Ramadan City, Badr City, Mahalla or Helwan. It's the same... workers signing blank cheques and IOUs to the business owners so they could be thrown in jail anytime the latter decided. Others are forced to sign their resignation with a blank date before they start working, so they can get fired anytime. Of course no labor unions, no health insurance, nothing! All techniques of blackmail, oppression and expoloitation have been copied and pasted by our Jordanian brothers when it came to treating Egyptian laborers. And what's even more beautiful, they bring an Egyptian manager stooge to run the operation. Bring an Egyptian to screw another Egyptian, that's what the Jordanians learned from Mubarak's gangsters.

Sad.

Simply refuse to go and work, under these conditions.

Yes you sign on to work, you do not sign on to hand over your dignity.

Return home, farm feed your family.

Many of "OUR" people leave believing that they will come back wealthy and live like big men.

This does not happen, lose this fantasy.

Dream of a Home of your own,and your childrens bellies full.
